Directional Speakers, Acoustic Foams, Acrylic Panels, Computer, Audio Interface

The exhibition space is treated with various types of acoustic panels. There are four directional speakers placed at different locations. Beams of sound emitted from the directional speakers will be reflect by the hard surfaces and absorbed by the acoustic panels. In Contingent Matter, all the elements, including the visitors, are relationally linked. Different qualities of the acoustic features of the space are activated by the sound which is also affected by the visitors’ behaviors and positions in the space. At the same time, also the visitors will react to the sound. The feedback mechanism of the space and the visitors determines how the work functions as a living system.
